If you know me personally (and I'm guessing that at this early point pretty much everyone who reads this blog does), then you surely knew, or at least suspected, that a dB post was on the way. Here it is. Of course, if you read my somewhat less-than-informative post about this year's Communikey Festival, it may be apparent that I'm not really any good at writing about festival experiences. I set out, camera in hand, to document the weekend thoroughly and meticulously, but as the weekend progressed and I got swept up in the momentum of the program, my commitment to that endeavor inevitably waned - pictures got less frequent, I increasingly diverged from my planned schedule, missing out on events in order to spend time with friends both old and new, and when the weekend came to a close I was left wondering how to sum up such a varied and overwhelming experience. I will say that I had a blast, and that this year's experience was defined at least as much by the quality of people I encountered along the way than by the impressive performances themselves. Good company, in this case, elevated an already enjoyable experience into the realm of the sublime.
Thankfully, the goods folks at Resident Advisor were on point, so if you're curious, I recommend reading their analysis.
With each passing year, Decibel Festival seems to relentlessly step up its game, which only bodes well for future editions - if you haven't been, I recommend making the trip.
