When I heard that electronic virtuoso Kenneth J Gibson (aka [a]pendics.shuffle aka Electronic Music Composer aka Eight Frozen Modules aka Dubloner aka Reverse Commuter aka... seriously, he's got a lot of aliases) was teaming up with Brian McBride of ambient postrock group Stars of the Lid, I must confess I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but I was most certainly intrigued. Their debut EP, Hangups Need Company, is a glittering gem of psychedelic pop that sounds like it could conceivably have spent the last 40 years sitting overlooked in a dusty vault, just waiting for the right moment to be discovered. Tastefully restrained in its production and patiently methodical in its pacing, it seems built for timelessness and is already standing up well to repeated listening.
You can pick it up at their Bandcamp site HERE - well worth the affordable price, and all the better because you'll know that your money's actually going directly to the artists themselves.
